News » Industry Veterans Out to Revolutionize The Economics Of Mobile Wimax Deployments
Wednesday, September 09, 2009

Mountain View, CA, September 9, 2009 ― PureWave Networks, the developer of high performance, compact outdoor Mobile WiMAX 802.16e base stations has announced today its formal launch into the 4G industry.  Unlike other companies which strive for incremental product improvements, PureWave Networks designs its Mobile WiMAX base stations to fundamentally change the economics of carrier operations.

PureWave Networks’ management team has a solid grasp of the problems and opportunities inherent in the mobile broadband marketplace.  Leading the company as CEO and Chairman is Gideon Ben-Efraim.  Previously, Gideon was chief executive officer and founder of Go Networks. Gideon also served as Netro’s founder, chief executive officer and chairman for 9 years and led the IPO of the company in 1999. Prior to Netro, Gideon was a founder and executive vice president of engineering and business development at P-Com Inc. (IPO 1995).

PureWave Networks is comprised of former executives from companies including Alvarion, Netro, Nokia and P-Com, and has a seasoned board of directors of telecom veterans from companies including Ericsson, Motorola and Bridge Communication.

“I saw an opportunity in the market to assemble a team that would be able to solve the current economic issues of mobile broadband that have yet to be addressed, and this team has developed a solution that combines the lowest total cost of ownership with the highest performance in the industry,” said Gideon Ben-Efraim, chief executive officer and chairman of PureWave Networks. “Our technology costs and advances are a significant improvement over current offerings from our competitors, and will help drive the growth of mobile broadband within markets that have not previously been supported.”

To date PureWave Networks has raised over $26 million from leading Silicon Valley venture capital firms.

“PureWave Networks clearly has some compelling offerings that can help advance broadband growth in areas where it is needed most,” said Berge Ayvazian, Senior Advisor and 4G-industry analyst with Yankee Group. “Their unique approach truly shines in high-density urban scenarios, and PureWave Networks essentially gives their customers a choice in building out their broadband networks in low density rural deployments.”

The PureWave Networks Solution
The PureWave Quantum family of outdoor Mobile WiMAX base stations is currently shipping.  Highlights of the PureWave Quantum product family include:

  • The cost/size/performance combination makes the base stations attractive to any type of operator, from large mobile cellular service providers to small WISPs.
  • A patent pending, fully integrated, single box design that can be deployed completely outdoors, with no need for shelter or air-conditioning
  • Fully open architecture, allows customers to assemble a “best of breed” solution and to select other components from the broad WiMAX ecosystem
  • The PureMax™ Smart Antenna technology significantly increases base station range and capacity
  • The high performance base stations require as little as 65 Watts in power consumption, significantly lowering operating costs and overall carbon footprint

Join PureWave Networks next week for a live demo, September 15th-18th, at 4G World in Chicago at booth #526. Dan Picker, CTO of PureWave Networks will be participating on the panel: “Enabling Semiconductor and Antenna Technologies” on Wednesday, September 16th, 2009, 5-6p.m CT.
